I have always resisted the temptation to flash my headlamps at an oncoming car that has badly adjusted lights causing glare. Flashing is meant to just let other users know you are there, not that you are annoyed. Moreover, if you flash then the oncoming driver is also blinded, which is even more dangerous. Logic therefor says, leave it to the Police to catch and prosecute the offending driver, but do not flash.
But what about aftermarket HIDs where the users, thanks to miss-selling of the product, might claim to be unaware of the problems they are causing? Yet their lights stand out like a sore thumb, different colour and poor beam focus causing glare, I pass at least one or two every night.
Trouble is, whilst nearly all aftermarket HIDs are clearly illegal as well as dangerous, Police numbers are highly stretched, so chances of police enforcement are next to nil. And the 'logic' the HID users apply, on umpteen posts on various forums, is 'I have HIDs, nobody flashes me, so they can't be causing a problem.
What's the answer then, is it OK to flash headlamps at these people, in order to dispel the notion that their dangerous lights are actually safe?
