I am a little confused over the cross over year fro the Volvo S60
ie around 2005.

I believe that in 2005, the S60 was available with the euro 3 engine of 163 ps, or the euro 4 engine of 163 ps or 185 ps.

What I have learned so far from another non-Volvo forum, but probably a good member on here.

1/ Black engine cover (badged D5) = D5 euro3 163 bhp (no dpf, no swirl flap)

2/ Grey engine cover (badged 2.4D) = D5 euro4 163 bhp (with DPF, swirl flap etc).

3/ Grey engine cover (badged D5) = D5 euro4 185 bhp (with DPF etc).

4/ Basically, if its a black cover then its a e3 engine with 163bhp.

It has been mentioned that If its grey engine cover then be more careful as on occasion, sellers have been known to badge 2.4Ds as D5s., and pass off a 163ps as a more powerful 185ps.

So, as a novice (ME) what way would I know what to look at, that could assure me that the engine under the grey cover was what the seller was saying it was?

Was the engine choice more clear cut in 2006, and have non of this malarkey ??

Thanks to all you can share advice.
