Wondering if anyone could shed some light on this before I take my car to a garage. Or rather see if its worthwhile taking it to a garage.
I have a 2002 Volvo S40 which has only done 70k miles.
The gears always felt stiff and a bit clunky...
Problems started when it would pop out of fifth gear whilst driving. It would stay in fifth gear as long as your foot was on the accelerator but as soon as you lifted your foot off it would pop out.
Now it would go into fifth gear at all. You can hear a faint 'whirring' noise if you try to put it into fifth gear.
Do you think it'll need a new gearbox? i.e scrap the car or could it be something much more simple and cheaper.
